20th Thurs.
Got my call in to Marine at 1000. Took less than 20 minutes. That without doubt is the sweetest and most important phone call I’ll ever make.

23rd Sun.
Left Bundy at 0900 on ferry – “Ernie Pyle” – for Stoneman. Arrived at 1410. Into trucks to barracks Block 9 – Bldg. #3 on 14th and Jefferson in Section M.

24th
Called home again and wished them Merry Xmas. Put in call at 1730 and got it thru at 2200. Sure was swell. Talked to Marine, the boys, and Mother.

19th Wed.
The Great Day – 1st saw lights from good old USA at 0612. Weather sure is cold. The Golden Gate in the fog at 0900. A welcome ship, music, and American gals. Just looking at them was a treat for sore eyes. Looks like we are here for some time. W. Coast guys got off. I am sure they will enjoy their xmas. Received a partial pay of $10 and got a pass. Dunham, Bell, and I – Came in at 1:00 really plastered. No women, strictly on the level. Just being back is such a treat.

1st Sat.
At 9:26, just after we had completed the breakfast, the order came that the Gen. Bundy was in stoves [? illegible] to be packed in 1/2 hr. and all tents down, etc. What a hilarious day. Moved to the beach at 1700. Loaded at 1936, hungry as heck. Were fed coffee, bread, fried spuds and fresh hamburgers and gravy. Bunked down in “sick bay” – nice mattress, showers, and everything.

2nd
Tie ropes called up at 0027 and left for sea at 0653. Ate good breakfast but started to get sick at noon.

3rd Mon.
Traveled 362 miles – sick as hell.

4th Tues.
Traveled 863 miles. Feeling better. Got some sea sickness pills and they sure helped. Worked in laundry and did some washing of my own. It is swell down there. Fresh apples to eat and cold.
