19th Mon.
Worked all day building an enclosed and screened in toilet. We are really getting things fixed up. I have a hunch though that all this fixing will be for someone else. We won’t be here for long. Worked until 12:00 P.M. on the boys planes. It sure is a lot of work but I know they will like them. I am very tired.

20th Tues.
Went to the show “Meet the People.” Liked it very much. War news is good.

21st Wed.
Same old story. Felt blue all day.

22nd Thurs.
Still feeling blue. Got to snap out of it some way. Can’t keep on this way.

23rd Fri. – 24 Sat. – 25th Sunday
Starting today we are going to have every Sunday off. Will that be swell. Reddick found out that there was a nurse here from his home. I went with him to the 364 general hosp. We found her and talked about an hour. 1st woman I spoke to since the 28th of March. Was supposed to appear before the O.C.S. board but was called off.

26th Fri. –
Got a letter from home dated May 10. They have finally heard from me. It surely made me feel good to know that all was well at home. Fixed seats on the latrine. Some job, eh! Px [? illegible] opening tonight so will probably be able to buy some of the things I need.

27th Sat.
Didn’t work very hard to-day. Still doing carpenter work. No letter. Talked with Carl Sparks to-day. I am to write him a letter stating my reasons for a commission and he is going to endorse it. I am also handing in my recommendation letters. Well it will be an effort at least. I’m going to hold down my hopes. I’ve been disappointed at every turn so far.

28th Sunday
Worked all day. Very hot. Put in application for a commission to-day, although I feel hopeless about it. Rained like Hell tonite.

13th Sat.
Hard work all day, hauling in coral, building latrines, setting up our kitchen and fixing something to boil and clean our clothes. We got mail tonight. I got 3 letters from Marine and one from Mother. It was such a relief to hear again. Marine seems so disgusted. What would she say if she had to go thru this. Mother feels bad to and worries so much. She says she is proud of what I am doing and will always pray for me. If all of us pray as we do surely I will be guided safely thru, and return again to the ones I love.

Still getting equipment ready checking and rechecking. Am on, with 5 other men, the latrine detail. Have had no other duties so far. It is windy and cold to-day so put on my wool undershirt. Food is excellent. Looks like we will fight the Japs.

I am sure glad this week is over. It will be some easier now I hope. Weather as[sic] been swell. Getting routine now and things don’t seem so bad. Plenty aching muscles and a bum knee (the right one). Hope it gets better. Went to a show Princess O’Rourke. Very good. Washed clothes and cleaned rifle. Was on latrine detail this morning. First time I was in charge of a detail.
