3 Sun.
Our other ship has been sunk in the bay and a whole mess of our equip. is gone. So both the ships we came in were hit by suiciding bombers. Wrote a nice letter home.

4 Mon.
Quit early this A.M. Pile driver broke and we were short other materials. Got a letter.

5 Tues.
Was up practically all night with air raids, but not a bomb was dropped. The Jap air force has surely taken a beating here.

6 Wed.
Drying up a little. No mail today. No peces [? illegible].

7 Thurs.
Japs sure caught Hell today. They lost 52 planes, 5 destroyers and 8 freight and transports with 4000 men in one encounter and in another they lost 6 more transports. We lost 5 planes but all pilots were saved, and 2 ships damaged.

8 Fri.
Continual rain. Went to Tacloban and drove a truck and trailer home. No mail.

9 Sat.
Still raining. Worked hard all day. No raids since the 7th. It is about over here.

10 Sun.
On guard today.
