Arrived at Fort Ord today. It was without question the most interesting trip I ever took this far. The main cities we passed through were Topeka, Kansas, Denver, Col, Reno, Nev., Ogden, Utah, Oakland, Cal., San Francisco, Cal, Salinas and then Fort Ord. We saw some wonderful scenery. I’ll never forget it. Great Salt Lake, the mountain ranges, the drabiness[sic] of Ogden, but the graciousness of the mountains around it. (Pop. – 100,000).  The level desert lands, the beautiful Oakland Bay and the ferry ride across to San Francisco.  We saw the ocean liners and freighters in dock, dirigibles floating over head, planes flying in all directions and the landing of huge Douglas Sky Sleepers. They have 4 motors and are mighty big! Sure would like to fly one. San Francisco stands there majestically rising from the bay and over the hilltops. The whole country is beautiful. Have seen the ocean and wondered how long it would be before I might be on it.
